To identify fisheries, aquaculture, invasive species, wetland, and
resource restoration needs within Georgia, to develop, coordinate,
and implement the highest quality research projects on these needs,
and to interpret results for the community
To regularly review and disseminate knowledge of these issues generated
by academic research regionally, nationally and internationally
To evaluate existing, develop new, and promote successful aquaculture
production technologies
To facilitate cooperation between various coastal stakeholders
To educate the public and stakeholders on the impact of land use
practices on water quality and shellfish habitat with the emphasis
on the long-term sustainability of resources
To support research to identify pollution sources
To develop resources for educators and students focusing on our service
areas
To increase citizen awareness of the benefits of shellfish aquaculture
To develop and implement plans for natural resource enhancement and
habitat restoration throughout coastal Georgia
To promote environmentally sound aquaculture and fishery practices,
and to resolve any conflicts
To improve public understanding of shellfish pathogens and good handling
practices
To conduct monitoring for shellfish disease prevalence, and investigate
disease transmission
To support marketing promotional efforts to increase demand and price
for commercial species
To identify new aquaculture species and address the constraints limiting
their culture
To understand and maintain a current listing of regulations, permits
and licenses required for aquaculture and recreational/commercial
fishing
